When vacation ownership (and the whole condominium concept, for that matter) was in its infancy, purchasing housewares was a cumbersome, do-it-yourself process. Product quality was spotty. Product consistency was hard to achieve and there were no systems or standards in place for making housewares a manageable part of the equation for operational success. At first, nobody noticed. Gradually, as the market grew and competition increased, quality became a vital marketing issue. Soon developers, designers and owners began to realize the hidden cost of shoddy housewares and began to pay attention to the long-term savings available through planned maintenance and replacement of housewares inventory.
